The entire 1960s and 1970s were spent in fierce battles against the troops of the Communist Party of Burma, generously supported by Chinese regime. While southern Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, despite direct support from the United States, fell under the red wave, Burma, relying on its own forces, was able to withstand and prevent the establishment of a regime similar to the Khmer Rouge.
